Legionnaires Disease- Do you really know what it is? Do you know what your responsibilities are? Fines up to AED 500,000, find out more!

Speaker: Rodger Macfarlane - Technical Director, Culligan Middle East

In December 2016, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) issued what they call a "Rapid Risk Assessment" entitled "Increase of cases of Legionnaires' disease in EU travellers returning from Dubai, October-December 2016". The Dubai Municipality took immediate measures to inspect hotels, malls and residential buildings to instigate chlorination of domestic water systems and cooling towers.

These preventative measures were underpinned by Local Order no. (11) of 2003 on Public Health and Community Safety in the Emirate of Dubai with violations being punishable with fines of up to AED500,000 for first offences and double for repeat offenders as well as suspended work permits or activity practicing license and/or disconnection of utilities.

Rodger will provide a practical and realistic approach to ensure compliance while following best practice. Graduating as a chemical engineer in 1982 Rodger has been involved in water treatment for his entire career. He supported his first customer in the management of a Legionnaires' disease outbreak in 1982 and has experience across Europe and the Middle East. Rodger is currently Technical Director of Culligan International - the region's largest total water management company, ensuring water safety for thousands of commercial and industrial water users.
